Omnicom Poaches Turner Marketing Boss to Fill Top OMD Slot

Omnicom-owned OMD, the globe’s largest media planning and buying shop, has hired former Turner Broadcasting Sales’ head honcho Joe Uva as worldwide president/ceo. He joins OMD on January 1 filling the shoes of Daryl Simm, recently elevated to president/ceo Omnicom Media Group.

Uva, a one-time media planner and buyer for McCann-Erickson and Grey, joined Turner seventeen years ago. He’ll be missed, according to Jamie Kellner, chairman/ceo of Turner Broadcasting System, who describes him as “an immensely talented executive who has played a key role [in Turner’s success]”.

John Wren, Omnicom president and ceo, is likewise enthused: “Joe's appointment brings us the kind of dynamic, forward-thinking leadership and organisational ability that will drive the exceptional resources that exist in OMD.”

Uva will join the OMD worldwide board of directors, where he assumes responsibility for all OMD operations worldwide.
