Ofcom Imposes Record Penalty on UK Radio Station

22 June 2006

LONDON - UK media watchdog Ofcom has slapped a £175,000 ($322k; €255k) fine on Emap-owned radio station Kiss FM after it upheld complaints about a breakfast-time show.

The regulator imposed the record penalty for a hoax interview which breached privacy rules and for the station's failure to protect children from foul and sexually explicit language.

Emap said the show had been "terminated".
