The need for “a unit that can operate fast on its feet” is Ogilvy Group’s main rationale for the launch of Adworks, a standalone full service shop located in London’s Grays Inn area – some miles distant from the main Ogilvy HQ at Canary Wharf, Docklands.

According to Ogilvy chair Paul Simons, Adworks’ management team is already in place. Although declining to name names, he said it comprises both internal and external personnel. The shop, which will actively seek new business, has also won its first client whose identity must remain under the wraps for “a couple of weeks”.

Explains Simons: “It's something we've been talking around for six to eight months. Originally it came up because we wanted something to handle potential client conflicts in the future but we also want a unit that can operate fast on its feet. There are some newer projects we are looking at which require a fast turnaround.”
