Nike Q3 Profits Up Despite European and Japanese Ills

    BEAVERTON, OREGON - Sports footwear and apparel maker Nike reported fiscal third-quarter profit up 19% as strong sales in the US, China and Latin America offset flagging results in Western Europe and Japan.
    The group posted net income of $325.8 million (€269.37m; £186.35m), for the fiscal quarter ended February 28, up year-on-year from $273.4m. Sales, which include golf equipment and dress shoes as well as swoosh-emblazoned sneakers and clothing, jumped 9.2% to $3.61 billion.
