LONDON: British companies (and overseas firms trading from UK addresses) must now comply with new regulations requiring the placement of mandatory corporate information both on their websites and email footers.
Failure to do so breaches the Companies Act and could incur penalties.
The new regulations, which came into force on 1 January 2007, require every firm to list on its website "in legible characters" its company registration number, place of registration, and registered office address. This must also appear on order forms and emails.
The new rules extend earlier legislation passed in 1985 that mandated a similar requirement for business letterheads.
