New Marketing Supremo at M&S

Stuart Rose, new chief executive at imperilled high street retail giant Marks & Spencer, has lost no time in installing a new marketing regime.

Rose's erstwhile colleague from another [once] ailing retail group, Steven Sharp, immediately eased himself into the still-warm seat of departed M&S marketing director Alice Avis [WAMN: 17-Jun-04], anointed with the grandiloquent title of 'director of marketing, design and store development'.

Sharp and Rose worked together at retail holding company Arcadia before its takeover eighteen months ago by the selfsame raider currently threatening M&S -- controversial entrepreneur and virtuoso of the Anglo-Saxon phrase, Philip Green.

Sharp, says an M&S spokeswoman, "is reviewing all aspects of the business". It was his importation as 'marketing consultant' earlier this month that precipitated Avis' departure within a matter of days.
