20 September 2001

The ‘big four’ US television networks – ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox – will fund and tomorrow night simultaneously broadcast a special benefit event for victims of last week’s attacks on New York and Washington.

Reportedly the first occasion the dominant quartet has run the same show at the same time, the foursome will simulcast America: A Tribute to Heroes alongside any other TV or radio broadcaster wishing to take part. It is as yet unclear whether a special fund will be set up by the networks or whether the telethon will point viewers towards existing charity groups.

Numerous celebrities are donating their time to the event, Jim Carey, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Robert DeNiro, Cameron Diaz, Tom Hanks and Will Smith to name a few.
