NZ Internet Firms Push Broadband Adspend

NEW ZEALAND - The country's internet service providers have ramped up advertising spend in a race to sign broadband subscribers.

Figures from Nielsen Media Research show Telecom spent NZ$6.5 million ($3.9m; €3.1m; £2.1m) advertising its Xtra broadband service in the first five months of this year, compared with NZ$6.3m for the whole of last year.

Rival Slingshot spent NZ$204k on advertising broadband in the first five months of 2006, compared with just NZ$62k last year.
