NBC Touts British Version of 'Law & Order' to ITV

04 January 2008

NEW YORK: NBC Universal's lucrative longtime TV format Law & Order could hit UK screens in a version tailored to the British market - happily providing the nation's largest but ailing commercial broadcaster ITV with a sorely-needed anchor for its evening peaktime schedules.

The two broadcasters have been chewing the fat over L&O for several months, insiders say, the likely outcome being an imaginatively-titled Law & Order London.

Also involved in the talks is Kudos, a UK-based production company controlled by Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth (pictured above). It is best known for two top-rated UK series Spooks and Life on Mars

According to the Financial Times, a done deal with ITV would be a major boost for NBC's drive to double overseas revenues in two to three years.

NBCU president /ceo Jeff Zucker lauds the putative deal as "the first real step in increasing the international production of our TV properties".
