Rupert Murdoch’s UK tabloid duo The Sun and the News of the World have posted record ad revenues.
For the twelve months to June 30, The Sun (Britain’s top-selling national daily paper) saw advertising increase 4.2%, while at Sunday market leader NotW there was an 8.7% upsurge.
Ian Clark, director of advertising at the duo’s parent News Group Newspapers, said the rise reflected the publisher’s attempts to help improve the return on advertisers’ spend.
“Our greatest increases in ad revenue have come from areas where return on investment is more readily highlighted, such as inserts and display ads from the retail sector,” he commented. “Our record performance from the strategic sales team also reflects our innovation.”
