SCHAUMBURG, Illinois: Cellphone handset maker Motorola has named current president/coo Greg Brown (pictured) as new ceo. He will take over on January 1 from Ed Zander, who will remain as chairman.

Brown joined Motorola in 2003. He was previously chairman/ceo of network management software company Micromuse, and also worked at Ameritech Custom Business Services, Ameritech New Media and AT&T.

Motorola is looking to expand its EMEA marketing operations and appointed Andrew Morley as vp for the region in July.
