REDMOND, Washington: Microsoft has extended its US digital advertising offering, announcing it will sell banner and text ads on its cellphone platform MSN Mobile, enabling access to services like Hotmail and MSN Messenger.
The company already sells ad space on its web portal MSN and in its video games. Adding cellphones to the mix is seen as part of its overall effort to offer an increasingly integrated digital service to advertisers.
Its MSN Mobile service has some 465 million monthly users stateside, and similar advertising schemes are already operating in countries including Japan, France, Spain and the UK.
Advertisers that have already featured on the US version of MSN Mobile include Jaguar and Paramount Pictures.
Says Joanne Bradford, MSN's corporate vp/cmo: "By incorporating advertising on MSN Mobile, we are allowing advertisers to extend their existing campaigns from PCs to games and now to mobile phones, further delivering on our vision to extend advertising across multiple platforms and devices".
