LONDON: Controlled circulation newspaper group Metro International is expanding its digital operations and has appointed former BSkyB executive Tom Symonds to head the new unit.
Luxembourg-headquartered Metro, which publishes free newspapers in 100 cities across 20 countries, will develop localised websites complete with news and lifestyle features and user-generated content in a bid to attract the youth market.
Comments Symonds: "We are building a team with the aim over the next six months to establish a network of new-look, high-quality Metro websites across all our major markets."
The company has also appointed a new global marketing director, Sidonie Kingsmill, who has worked on a variety of brands at Procter & Gamble and Nestlé.
