McDonald's Scores On Back of World Cup

OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS: Burger barony McDonald's saw Q2 profits rise 57% as the soccer World Cup in Germany helped lift European sales by 6.3% to a ten-year high.

Worldwide, sales leapt 9% to $5.6 billion (€4.45bn; £3.04bn), driving-up net income to $834.1 million. Cooed McDonald's ceo Jim Skinner: "We are pleased with Europe's improving profitability and remain intent on building upon these strong results."
