Italian-based Motorride has announced plans to launch a pan-European internet portal selling scooters and accessories online. will begin trading on October 15, covering Italy, Spain, the UK, Germany and France. The company hope to extend its reach to Japan and the USA next year, and to increase its product range to include finance and insurance.

A year in the planning, Motorride is funded by a consortium comprising Deutsche Bank, Morgan Grenfell Private Equity, the Boston Consulting Group and scooter manufacturer Piaggio.

Advertising will be handled by Milan’s Opinion Leader, which says the initial campaign will be conducted online as well as on TV and radio. The budget was not disclosed.
