Lowe Lintas Connects with Virgin Mobile

31 January 2001

Virgin Mobile, the British cellphone network nominally controlled by high profile entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, has awarded its US account to Lowe Lintas, San Francisco.

With a claimed value of $90 million, the win encompasses both creative and media duties. It is not known whether other agencies were involved in pitching for the business.

Given the shop's loss last fall of the $100m Sun Microsystems business [WAMN: 23-Oct-00], Lowe Lintas chairman and ceo Gary Goldsmith was exultant at the news: “This is a great win and adds further fuel to our confidence that our West Coast agency will be a leading force in that market.”

Virgin Mobile established its stateside presence last year in San Francisco and will launch its service later in 2001.
