Leo Burnett Loses Coke Account to McCann

26 March 2001

In a replay of the recent changeover in India, Coca-Cola Germany has moved its business out of Bcom3’s Leo Burnett and into the local office of McCann-Erickson Worldwide.

The move follows the naming by Coke last December of Interpublic-owned McCann as its “creative consultant and idea generator at the global level.'” At the time, however, the Atlanta-based titan said that national Coke management would keep the right to work with agencies of their own choice.

The rumor mill has it that Germany is not the only market where McCann is about to snatch Coke business from incumbent shops – of which there at least ten spread across the globe. A McCann spoke in Europe declined to comment and referred all questions to the client.
