Philips Electronics
The Dutch electronics giant returned to profit in 2003 with net earnings of €695 million ($881m; £471m), up from a €3.2 billion loss the year before. Sales, however, dipped 8.7% to €29bn.
The earnings recovery follows a strong fourth quarter, during which the group posted net income of €598m, a marked improvement on the €1.53bn deficit in Q4 2002.
Significantly, Philips' long-suffering US consumer electronics unit also showed signs of recovery. It posted earnings of €1m in Q4, its first quarterly profit for 15 years. For the whole of 2003 it recorded a loss of €87m, down from €125m the year before.

Radio One
The broadcasting group, which targets the US African-American population, posted fourth-quarter earnings of $14.5m, up from $9.6m a year earlier, thanks to a 10% rise in ad sales in December. Revenues, meanwhile, climbed from $87.5m to $88m.
For the full year, Radio One reported profits of $53.8m, up from $7.1m in 2002, as revenues rose from $336m to $345m.
