Lambert to Step Down as FT Editor

06 July 2001

Richard Lambert is to step down as editor of the Financial Times, leaving the paper at the end of the year.

Replacing him will be Andrew Gowers, founding editor of the newspaper’s German edition FT Deutschland, who will take over the editorship in London in September.

Under Lambert’s decade-long stewardship, the FT’s circulation has jumped 69% to 486,000, with the number of copies sold abroad rising from under one-third of the total to over one-half. In addition to FT Deutschland, new editions have been added in Frankfurt, New York, Tokyo and Paris.
