KFC Seeks Pope's Endorsement for New Fish Sandwich

26 February 2007

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky: Barely one-sixth of the way into 2007, what promises to be the year's tackiest promotional stunt was perpetrated last week by KFC president Gregg Dedrick.

In a letter to Pope Benedict XVI, Dedrick sought a personal papal blessing for KFC's new 99-cent Fish Snacker sandwich . . . "as a way for members of your flock to keep a holy Lenten season."

Fish Snacker claims to be a filet of 100% Alaskan Pollack, soused with what is purportedly tartar sauce and served on an alleged sesame bun.

Blathers cmo James O'Reilly, speaking direct from KFC's Lake Wobegon unit: "People can enjoy the flavor of the new Fish Snacker any day of the week, but we believe it will be especially popular on Fridays."
