J Walter Thompson has been handed the No.7 and Boots Opticians brands by British healthcare company Boots.

Losing out are St Luke’s, which has handled No.7 for four years, and Grey Advertising.

JWT has created ads for No.7 before, handling the launch of its suncare range this year. However, there is speculation around the ad industry as to how the agency will handle the conflict with existing client Rimmel.

The move is part of Boots’ consolidation of its marketing with WPP [WAMN: 18-Oct-00] as it seeks to expand globally. JWT has also been handed creative duties for Boots Retail International, while media planning and buying for a range of Boots’ brands has been moved from OMD UK to MindShare.
