JWT Links with Japan's Asatsu-DK

04 February 2004

J Walter Thompson is joining forces with Japan's third largest ad agency Asatsu-DK as it tries to win more business from Japanese firms.

The two firms will continue to operate as separate businesses, but will work together to target Japanese advertisers. Asatsu-DK hopes to use JWT's international network to win new clients, while the WPP Group agency wants to increase the number of domestic firms on its books. At present, around 70% of JWT's business in Japan comes from foreign companies.

The deal builds on an existing relationship between the two. WPP has a 20% holding in Asatsu-DK, which in turn owns 2.6% of the UK-headquartered holding company.
