Indian Government Targets Spam

06 June 2007

NEW DELHI: The Indian federal government has announced a crackdown on spam emails and SMS messaging which offer consumers in the sub-continent unregulated pharmaceuticals and health products.

The National Consumer Policy will bring about special legislation to ensure consumers have "informed choice of goods and services".

This will allow the government to monitor telemarketing, emails, and SMS messages and at the same time disseminate information on product safety and unfair trade practices.
