Indian Creative Guru to Head 2004 Cannes Lions Jury

11 November 2003

The first appointment of a non-occidental to the presidential hotseat of the main Cannes Lions jury was announced this week.

As a former professional cricket player, Piyush Pandey will not be a stranger to controversial umpiring. Now widely regarded as India's leading advertising creative, Pandev - group president and national creative director of Ogilvy & Mather India - will preside over the main film, print and outdoor juries at next year's advertising gongfest.

His previous Cannes stints have included that of film judge last year as well as membership of the so-called 'Yong Guns' jury that rated the best work done by young creative teams.

Other juries will be headed by MediaCom ceo Alexander Schmidt-Vogel (Media Lions), Draft group chairman/ceo Howard Draft (Direct Marketing Lions), and Robert M Greenberg, chairman/chief creative officer of R/GA, New York (Cyber Lions).
