Indian Consumers Switch-On to Wireless Technology

NEW DELHI: India's citizens are continuing their enthusiastic adoption of cellphones, with the nation's telecoms watchdog, TRAI, reporting a record 9.22 million new wireless subscriptions in July, bringing the national total to 296.08m.

In contrast, the latest figures show the numbers of fixed-line users falling, down to 38.76m in July from 38.92m the previous month.

The total number of phone connections hit 334.84m at the end of July, compared with 325.78m in June.
