Independent News &Media Looks Forward to Ad Growth

26 December 2005

International media group Independent News & Media reports that advertising revenues are continuing to grow.

The Dublin-headquartered publisher of national and regional newspaper titles in the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa says revenue for the eleven months to November was more than 7.5% higher than in the previous year, while circulation revenues were up 3%.

INM says that 2005 will show double digit advertising growth in Ireland and South Africa, reflecting the continuing economic success of the two countries.

It also reports that while the general UK market - where it publishes flagship titles, The Independent and the Independent on Sunday - lags last year, the group continues to outperform the market there.

Many of its British media competitors, including Trinity Mirror and GCap Media have been hurt this year by an advertising decline.

The Australasian operation, its biggest, "showed solid advertising gains underpinned by buoyant local economies and strong commodity prices".

The group says online revenues have continued to enhance its advertising growth in all markets.
