Independent Extends UK Tabloid Experiment

31 October 2003

British daily broadsheet The Independent is to begin the nationwide roll-out of its tabloid version.

The paper began publishing in two formats a month ago, but only in the Greater London area. From Tuesday, the tabloid edition will be available in the region served by Granada TV in north-west England. It will cost 60 pence ($1.02; €0.87), the same as the broadsheet.

The Independent – part of Independent News & Media – hopes to extend the smaller format to other regions in the coming months.
