Britain’s Independent Television Commission has rejected all complaints of bias connected with the Iraq war – including those against US channel Fox News.
The ITC launched a probe into Fox's war coverage last month after several accusations of bias [WAMN: 12-May-03]. The channel – which adopted a belligerently pro-US stance during the conflict – is broadcast in the UK on the Sky Digital platform, bringing it within the regulator’s authority.
Although the ITC demands “due impartiality”, the regulator revealed this “does not mean that the broadcasters have to be absolutely neutral on every controversial view.” It concluded that “a range of opinions are heard on the station.”
The ITC rejected all 81 bias complaints connected with the war – only nine of which were against Fox.
