Leading internet portal Universo Online is to offer travel services via the web in partnership with Latin American travel group Flytour, publisher Panrotas and technology specialist Voxel.

Branded TurismoNet, the joint venture will launch on July 3, backed by a $6 million investment. It will feature over 2,000 travel packages via a sophisticated flight reservation system covering more than 500 airlines, 50 car rental firms and 45,000 hotels worldwide. The service features eight hundred ‘editorial’ pages including special sections for segmented groups such as senior citizens and gays.

"It's a very significant market and … represents a huge stake in e-commerce," claims Universo Online.
