Hershey Bisects Biz

Hershey Foods Corporation, America's largest chocolate and confectionery manufacturer, announced Tuesday it has bisected its US business into discrete divisions - confectionery and snacks.

Heading the confectionery division as president is former Hershey svp and chief marketing officer Thomas Hernquist. In addition to his new duties, Hernquist will continue to run Hershey's retail outlets, among them the company's visitor center Hershey's Chocolate World, its Time Square store and the upcoming Hershey's Chicago.

His opposite number at the snacks unit has yet to be appointed but he or she will be charged with expanding Hershey's snacks range into new markets.

In keeping with the move - and in recognition of the disposal in past years of Hershey's pasta and sauce brands, the group is asking stockholders to approve a name change to Hershey Company.
