Google Signs Chinese Partner for AdWords

09 August 2005

In the communist-run, capitalist-led Klondyke that is the People's Republic of China, yet another US commercial giant has staked its claim.

The latest prospectors are the cool dudes from Google, who have agreed to licence their successful AdWords product to IT services provider China Enterprise (a unit of Hong Kong-listed telecoms operator Sino-i Technology).

AdWords inserts paid-for ads into a results page when a web-user user searches for particular words or phrases.

In a joint statement, the twosome proclaim: "By aligning with CE, with its leading position in China's e-commerce and (small and medium enterprise) market and large customer base, Google can now provide ... businesses in China with easy access to Google AdWords."

China is now the world's second-largest internet market with more than 100 million users.
