Google Set to Bid in US Airwaves Auction

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: Google announced Friday it intends to bid for analog wireless spectrum to be auctioned by the Federal Communications Commission in preparation for the US digital switchover in 2009.

Google recently announced plans to develop software for mobile phones and the new network capacity would allow it to compete directly with existing mobile communications companies by providing provide cellphone and web services.
