Google Makes Next Move into Mobile Ads

19 September 2007

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California: Online search leader Google, never one to miss a dollar-making trick, is to expand its cellphone advertising services.

Its AdSense for Mobile project will allow any website accessible through a mobile internet browser to participate in Google's vast advertising network.

For example, a web user reading about a football game on a mobile device will be able to see an ad for sports equipment or memorabilia. If the consumer clicks on the ad, the marketer pays Google a fee that is shared with the publisher of the mobile web page.

Dilip Venkatachari, product management director for AdSense, says the ads will provide a new source of revenue for publishers and could encourage more mobile-focused websites.
