Google Finds The Right Words

08 October 2004

The world's most successful internet search engine, Google, is entering the lucrative world of book promotion.

Google Print, unveiled at the Frankfurt Book Fair by the company's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, allows users to see book excerpts before they buy, together with normal search results. The twist is the link to online book retailers.

Google is stressing it will not sell books itself nor will it take commission, but it will make money through advertisements posted near the book titles.

What threat, or otherwise, the service poses to online book selling giant Amazon, which is also one of Google's business partners, remains unclear.
