Goodby, Silverstein Walks Off with Twelve Andy Awards; Grandy Goes to DDB’s ‘Whassup’

27 April 2001

The Advertising Club of New York yesterday held its annual International Andy Awards at the Big Apple’s vast Hammerstein Ballroom.

The Grandy Award – as the event’s grand prix prize is affectionately known – was predictably collected by Omnicom’s DDB Worldwide, Chicago, for its all-conquering ‘Whassup’ TV campaign on behalf of Anheuser-Busch's Budweiser brand.

It was definitely Omnicom’s night at the Big Ballroom, with its San Francisco shop Goodby Silverstein & Partners waltzing off with no fewer than twelve awards – seven Andys plus five Awards of Distinction – for its work across a range of clients including Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Pacific Bell and E*Ttrade.

Picking-up the crumbs left by Omicom, only two shops gained more than one Andy: Havas-owned Arnold Worldwide Partners of Boston (for Volkswagen) and Cliff Freeman & Partners, New York (Fox Sports).
