NUREMBURG - German consumer confidence rose to the highest level in more than four years after growth accelerated and unemployment declined in May, according to market researcher GfK's latest index.

The survey climbed to 6.8, the highest since December 2001, from a revised 5.8 in the previous month.

Business confidence remained close to a 15-year high in May and the unemployment rate declined to 11.3% from a post-Second World War record of 12% early last year.
