General Electric Sees Profits Rise

   FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT - The industrial products and media conglomerate says its first-quarter profit rose 9%, despite weakness at its NBC Universal television network.
   General Electric reported net earnings for Q1 of $4.3 billion (€3.55bn; £2.45bn), compared with $3.96bn a year ago. NBC, which has lost popular TV shows in recent years such as Friends, saw profits of $654 million, down 8% from $709m a year ago.
