GM Offers News Incentives to Shift Vehicles

20 November 2006

DETROIT: General Motors has launched yet another discount scheme to boost domestic sales of its vehicles through to the end of the year.

The ailing giant is offering up to $2,000 (€1.5k, £1k) off the ticket price many of its models during the 46-day Red Tag promotion, but is leaving the exact discounts to the discretion of dealers.

The promotion applies to GM's Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC and Saturn brands and the company believes it will generate better demand on a region-by-region basis.

Spokesman John McDonald says the new incentives, coupled with a beefed-up warranty package, should help "build more momentum" for 2007.

GM's market share has fallen to 24.5% this year as Asian rivals made gains at its expense. It is cutting production by around 13% in the fourth quarter.
