General Motors is poised to launch its biggest-ever US automobile discount scheme, using a mix of new and traditional promotional techniques.
GM has briefed its dealers about the promo which, according to insiders, will use a number of websites to offer targeted discount coupons to consumers. The coupon deals - up to $750 per vehicle - will be based on personal data supplied by potential customers when they log-on to the sites. The discounts will apply in addition to existing GM national and regional programmes, and the online mechanic allows the car giant to adjust discounts in line with market response - far faster than is possible using traditional promotional methods.
The websites will also feature prize giveaways and consumer test drive incentives.
