Further Tremors in Wal-Mart Management Suite

BENTONVILLE; Arkansas: The tidal wave of management change following the seismic ousting of Wal-Mart Stores' marketing communications svp Julie Roehm at the end of last year continues to buffet the world's biggest retailer.

The latest executive in line for a move is reportedly Eduardo Castro-Wright, currently ceo of Wal-Mart Stores Division in the US. He is likely to take on an international role and be replaced by Doug McMillon, who heads the Sam's Club retail warehouse unit.

Former cmo John Fleming, who matched and despatched Roehm in addition to overseeing her negotiations with dismissed agencies DraftFCB and Carat, has already been moved sideways to the post of chief merchandising officer [WARC: 26-Jan-07].

It is still unclear where Castro-Wright will go, but he could succeed Mike Duke, vice chairman of Wal-Mart International. That particular scenario could have a knock-on effect at the very top of the organization, where ceo Lee Scott rules.

Wal-Mart remains, as usual, zip-lipped as it tries to find solutions, managerial and otherwise, to the problem of slowing growth.
