French Motor Show Boosts New Car Sales

PARIS: A burst of enthusiasm from French consumers, fuelled by the country's recent national motor show, has lifted domestic vehicle sales.

Renault, including Romanian subsidiary Dacia, enjoyed a 20% rise in registrations last month from a year earlier, to 61,304 vehicles. Peugeot Citroën's registrations increased 6.9% to 67,200 vehicles, according to France's Car Manufacturers' Association.

However, the industry body warned that the recovery from September's 13% fall may not be sustained. For the first ten months of this year, overall car and light-truck registrations in France are down 0.9%, compared with the first 10 months of 2005. Passenger-car registrations are 2% lower.
