Ford Confounds Analysts with Profit Prediction

11 September 2002

Ford Motor Company says it will post a “small” profit in the third quarter, confounding downbeat forecasts by analysts.

Despite predictions of a Q3 loss, the auto giant believes it will stay in the black before exceptional charges thanks to healthy sales in America.

Ford posted a deficit of $5 billion (€5.1bn; £3.2bn) in 2001, but is trying to slash North American production costs by $700 per vehicle.
