Ford Cedes Second Sales Slot to Toyota, Chrysler

05 December 2006

DEARBOURNE, Michigan: Ford Motor Company, traditional runner-up to General Motors in the US auto sales stakes, ceded second place last month to Toyota and was also overtaken by Chrysler Group to languish at number four.

Ford's sales plummeted year-on-year by 9.6%, exacerbated by a 16% fall-off in buyers for its F-Series pick-up truck, north America's top-selling vehicle and a major contributor to the company's bottom line.

GM's sales grew by 6.1% and Toyota scored its best-ever November with a 15.9% sales increase. DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes-Benz and Chrysler Group between them achieved a 5% uplift..
