Food Giants’ Efforts Not Worth Their Salt Says UK Government

Food manufacturers have been given until September to tackle the high salt content of their foods, or else … according to The Times' report on the UK government's latest plan to combat unhealthy eating and heart disease.

Companies such as Heinz, Nestlé, McDonald's and some own-brand supermarket labels number among the twenty-seven that have already received a warning from public health minister Melanie Johnson.

If they fail to desalinate their act, the guilty companies will have their products branded as "high-salt".

Marks & Spencer is one of many companies angered by what they see as the government's "confused and uncoordinated" handling of the matter. Several claim to have already cut the salt content of their products.
