According to Interbrand, the Omicom-owned branding consultancy, five UK-based companies are tipped to join the crème de la crème – the planet’s top one hundred brands, all exceeding $1 billion in brand valuation.
The expectant quintet – Burberry, HSBC Group, Orange, Tesco and Vodafone – are expected to enter the rankings in the near future, joining eight compatriot brands: BP, Burger King, Financial Times, Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Reuters, Shell and Smirnoff.
All, however, will trail by many billions the US-dominated top ten led by Coca-Cola at $68.9bn with Microsoft and IBM respectively in second and third places. The sole non-US member of the elite ten is Finland’s Nokia.
