First English-Language Sunday Newspaper Launched in China

07 July 2008

SHANGHAI: Wenhui-Xinmin United Press Group this weekend launched China's first English-language Sunday newspaper, titled with unimpeachable if unimaginative logic - Sunday.

A sibling of Shanghai Daily, Sunday will be published in two sections, the front comprising the latest local, national and international news and sport.

Vibe, the second section, is devoted to lifestyle stories and other items that reflect Sunday living in China's largest city, whose extended metropolitan population numbers over 20 million.

Sunday goes on sale for 3 yuan ($0.44; €0.28; £0.22) via hotels, newsstands and to subscribers through home delivery.

Wenhui-Xinmin United Press publishes foreign editions of its newspapers and magazines in ten countries, including US and Australian editions.
