  • Ford Motor Company (calendar Q3)
    The globe's third largest automobile manufacturer (after GM and Toyota) reported third quarter net income of $266 million (€212.54m; £147.46m), compared year-on-year with a loss of $25m. Sales rose to $39 billion from $36.74 billion a year ago.    Ford of Europe narrowed its third-quarter loss from $400 million a year ago to $33m before taxes. Revenue rose 28% to $5.9 billion.    
    But the Premier Automotive Group, which includes Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo, reported a pretax loss of $171m, compared with $24m in pretax losses a year earlier.

  • Motorola (calendar Q3)
    Year-on-year profit more than quadrupled and revenue leapt 26% thanks to strong sales of its new handsets.
       The company earned $479 million (€382.74m; £265.54m), while revenue was $8.62 billion, compared with $6.83bn in 2003.

  • Reckitt Benckiser (calendar Q3)
    Net revenue at the Anglo-Dutch household products group grew at 1% - or 8% at constant exchange rates - to £976m ($1.76bn; €1.41bn). Net income rose 23% (32% at constant exchange rates) to £151 million.
       Marketing investment increased significantly, with media spend 6% higher, representing 12.2% of gross revenues.
