Fallon Pulls Out of Gateway Contest

23 February 2001

Publicis-owned Fallon in Minneapolis has withdrawn from the review of PC marketer Gateway’s estimated $250 million account.

The agency was reticent on the reasons for its withdrawal, saying only that it had failed to agree terms with the bovine-branded company. Gateway was similarly tight-lipped, refusing to confirm the reports or comment on its marketing strategy until its new management team have met on February 28.

Fallon had been favourite to win the account after former incumbent McCann-Erickson Worldwide in New York was axed earlier this month [WAMN: 08-Feb-01; 09-Feb-01].

The status of other contenders – including Arnold Worldwide in Boston, New York’s DiMassimo Brand Advertising and Stiltanen/Keehn in El Segundo, California – remains unclear.
