Emerging Markets Boost Unilever Q3 Profits

05 November 2007

LONDON: Consumer goods giant Unilever, maker of such brands as Dove soap and Hellmann's mayonnaise, posted a robust 37% rise in third quarter profits to €1.01 billion ($1.46bn; £701m).

Strong sales in the emerging markets of China and India pushed revenue up 1%, compared with the year earlier figure, to €10.24bn, compensating for declines in Europe and the US.

The company said savory foods, dressings, spreads and home care performed "particularly well" during Q3, while ice cream and beverage sales were mixed.
