Elisabeth Murdoch Snaps up US TV Program-Maker

04 December 2007

LONDON: British independent TV production company Shine Group, led by clan scion Elisabeth Murdoch, has inked a £97 million ($200m; €136.6m) transatlantic deal to buy Reveille, the biggest independent TV producer in the US.

Shine, behind such British hits as Spooks and Life on Mars, was founded in 2001, a year after Murdoch, eldest offspring of media magnate Rupert, left the family business.

Says John McVay, ceo of London-based PACT, the industry body for independent producers: "The US is crying out for Brits in terms of formats for programmes and creativity and she is now very strongly positioned. She is buying a real blue-chip brand."
